Due to the fact that the shape of the future graduate, his knowledge and skills to a large extent should be determined by the situation on the market and its needs, we would like to present how the market looks to us and in which direction it evolves. Past experience allows us to present our observations in several points:
1. There is a growing role of Internet solutions within information technology.
Information technology evolves in the direction of web solutions (access to data and applications from the browser via the Internet), which are used more widely, including outside the Internet. Traditional systems receive "Internet functions".
2. The Internet is becoming widespread
-
distribution and exchange of information are increasingly done using the Internet and web-based solutions, which are a universal and universally accepted platform for information and transactions. This platform also gradually takes over the functions of newspapers, radios, telephones, television or information brochures. In practice, this means moving many existing and placing many new systems, on the Internet,
-
ease of access to the Internet results in the public having more contact with applications/systems made available through the Internet
The result is that:
-
the existing model of using applications/systems, in which the model traditionally the use of the system was preceded by the user training,
-
the model of a typical user's system was changed,
-
requirements of the contemporary user in the field of information technology are lower than they used to be.
The consequence of placing information systems on the Internet is their change of sales model, which contributes to the ease of migration of customers from one supplier of solutions to another. The application itself must fight for the favor of users through its attractiveness, and an important element of the attractiveness aside from the functions which it performs is its appearance and intuitive operation.
3. Applications are becoming multimedia
In addition, the general technological development, increased memory capacity and processing power contributed to the dissemination of multimedia solutions in many aspects of the use of information technology.
The consequences of the application.
The combination of these trends with increasing bandwidth of Internet connections implies the following status:
-
the application is a web application with an intuitive and refined graphical interface, using multimedia elements,
-
the application is used in mass.
The consequence of these changes is particularly high requirements toward created solutions/systems, in terms of the interface, including its graphics setting. We want to emphasize the growing role of aesthetics and form of graphical interface, which, in the case of the existence of multiple systems with similar functionality may determine the choice of the customer.
The consequences for the labor market
In our opinion, the labor market suffers from a shortage of specialists with an interdisciplinary education that combines a solid theoretical, programming expertise and knowledge of Internet technology and computer graphic design. The knowledge that would enable the implementation of new telecommunications and Internet solutions that meet the requirements described above. These facts caused a need for a new model of education, better adapted to the new requirements. WSTI pursues this model of education complementing and expanding the classical IT education. Therefore, in the following fragment, we try to present a model of education, which would allow educating specialists able to take on new tasks set by the labor market in a possibly complete way.
WSTI Graduate's profile referring to the program:
Goal of education
The aim of education is to prepare a staff that will be prepared to undertake engineering and information technology work in the IT profession and to solve complex interdisciplinary problems in the field of broadly defined information technology.
Graduate during studies will obtain the knowledge needed for:
-
creative work in the field of methods of design analysis,
-
implementation and verification of IT system components,
-
designing and administering medium-sized IT systems,
-
practical use of IT tools,
-
design, construction and operation of computer networks and software,
-
design in the field of computer graphic design.
Moreover, the graduate will be prepared to meet the demands of a changing market.
The vision of an WSTI graduate
These assumptions mean that an IT specialist who meets the needs of the modern information technology market will have, beyond the universal characteristics of each IT specialist such as:
-
solid knowledge of the universal basics of information technology, which creates the opportunity to broaden it with new solutions, which will appear in the future;
-
a solid theoretical foundation of universal nature in fields related to information technology;
also have additional skills such as:
-
broad knowledge of web technologies (issues of networking, servers and their services, programming in the Internet environment);
-
knowledge of computer graphic design at a level enabling the implementation of the presentation layer of solutions implemented in the online environment;
-
knowledge enabling the construction of processing systems and presenting information of various sizes and types, such as text, image, sound and video on the platform of Internet solutions.
In addition, an WSTI graduate will have the following skills:
-
the ability to self-training based on the knowledge acquired on the basis of theoretical and practical subjects;
-
ability to solve problems independently.
The concept of vocational education
The concept of education involves teaching IT specialists who will be prepared to work in the following positions:
-
LAN/WAN network designer
-
LAN/WAN network administrator
-
programmer
-
designer programmer
-
designer and developer of databases
-
systems analyst
-
graphic designer
